Homecoming Flyer
Time: 1-2 hours
You'll need: Flyer design, (if available) a computer on which to design and print the
flyer, multiple copies of flyer, and people to distribute the flyers.
Note: The homecoming football or basketball game is a festive event that is usually well attended by students and their families, as well as the school's faculty, staff, and alumni. Let those who attend the game know what your school knows about teens and tobacco and what your school is doing about the problem. This is a great opportunity to gain visibility for your effort, involve more people in what is going on at the school, and communicate new information and enthusiasm on behalf of your school
Objective: To create a flyer to distribute at the ticket gate or concession stand of your school's homecoming game. Note that this would also work at any other school event!
Instructions: Create a flyer to hand out at the homecoming game. If you need some help getting started, look at our sample flyer. Include the latest information about...
- Student activities
- The current law
- Any recent reduction in student tobacco violations at school
- Special programs or projects your group is planning
- Upcoming national events like The Great American Smokeout or The Smoke Scream or National Substance Abuse Awareness month
Make your flyer attractive and small enough to be different from the typical one-page handout so that people will be more likely to read it. Printing it on colored paper is a good idea - that makes it more eye-catching.
Ask the ticket booth attendant to pass out copies of the flyer as he or she collects tickets, or have students station themselves near the gate to distribute the flyer as people enter. Place a few at the concession stand counter too! During half-time, ask your announcer to mention the flyer.
