Vote With Your Feet Quiz

Time: About 15 minutes

Materials: Four pieces of paper with large "A", "B", "C", and "D" letters printed on them (one on each), tape, master quiz paper with answers for the leader. The master quiz can be printed from below, or you can download a copy in MS Word format. Answers are given at the bottom of this page.

Note: Clear the room enough for participants to run and move around without bumping into hazardous objects. be sure to caution them to be careful. This game is designed to be fun and fast, so be sure they can do this safely.

Objective: For participants to gain a basic overview of tobacco facts.

Hands On: Put your "A", "B", "C", and "D" signs up in the four corners of the room (or in another configuration if it is more convenient). Use the "Vote With Your Feet" tobacco quiz. Begin with participants in the middle of the room as you give directions. Explain as follows:

"I will read a question with four multiple choice answers. you must remain quiet until you hear all the answers. When I say "go", run and stand under the answer you think is correct."

After each question, give them the correct answer. They can stay where they are while the next question is read. Continue through all the questions.

Discussion: Talk about which answers surprised them and why?  often students grossly overestimate the number of their peers who smoke. Many people believe this is due to the massive advertising of tobacco, especially ads featuring people with a youthful appearance. teens generally believe that non-smokers are in the minority. It is important to point out that smoking is a minority decision.
